Allison

their post.

alright already . . . quit with the threats people! Who knew I’d cause a stir with my teaser picture?! I should charge my family & friends to see this post. I bet I could bring in a small fortune from a few of “baby Raleigh’s” loyal fans. Here they are. I still couldn’t decide on my favorite pictures from Raleigh’s birthday shoot. So, my sincerest apologies for the monotonous shots (but not really;o))

This is an antique high chair that resides at her grandpa’s house. I know nothing about it, except that I had to have it to take these pictures. He brought it to me from Abilene just for this. Thanks Q-Pa for always taking care of me in the prop department. I go shopping at his house for my photography props every time I’m in Abilene. His garage is a gold-mine. And, for those of you who know him . . . you’re laughing right now aren’t you?

I love this picture because she’s standing. It’s the hallmark shot for a just turned 1 year old baby.

The Woodlands baby pictures

I love this picture because my baby was talking to ME. Not her goofy Daddy or her big sister, who were also trying to get her attention. It’s my shot. Of course, the cute knit teddy bear hat doesn’t hurt one bit.

The Woodlands baby photographers

now, this one is Daddy’s shot. She smiles like this for him. What? It looks like the same smile? It’s totally different. Way different. Trust me. It’s flirtier. Yeap, I can make up words if I want to.

What’s not to love about my favorite colors as a backdrop for all these images. I intentionally scoped this location for these colors. I even had to leave The Woodlands to find it! They will match her nursery perfectly. There’s something about the angle of winter light. It’s dreamier, softer, and full of pastels. It’s my favorite.

And, it’s not over! Some of you don’t know that my special mess #2, Raleigh, shares a birthday with my special mess #1, Pressly. Yeap, totally unplanned; no intervention. They were born on the same day 2 years apart. I think it’s very special and I hope they will have an extra special bond. Soooooooo. Here are Pressly’s 3rd Birthday pictures! We did them the same day. The fun part was, she was big enough this time to go out for a real “photo shoot” with me all by herself. We had fun together. I think this kid rocks so hard. She had her own little 3 year old ideas. She’s a funny one.

I’m leading with my favorite picture. We had the most amazing natural light reflectors all around us and then there were these amazing fluffy white clouds that assisted as our giant soft box straight from heaven (because these were taken at high noon people!).

did I mention she’s THREE now?

I had so many amazing pictures of her showing off her dance moves. Yah – they’re awesome. They’ll have their place, but, this one is my other favorite. Most people wouldn’t pick this one. I love it because it captures a real piece of her soul. A small piece, but a real piece. She felt just a tad insecure for a split second. She didn’t know what to do with her hands or her feet, her hair was blowing in her face & she felt a little awkward sitting on a cold piece of metal. She giggled and glanced down. Then back up. And, I clicked. My shutter release was just quick enough to catch it. Then she found her stride and that moment was gone. There’s just something so real and authentic about an emotion that you can’t control. I see a little girl here. . . not a baby anymore. Still my baby, but not a baby. And, that’s what I love about this image. I can see my baby, but I can also see a big girl growing into a little lady.

seeing clearly through all the distractions . . .

the woodlands tx photographers

I’m on a journey . . . you may or may not get see bits & pieces of it here?!;o)  So, I got up ONE (only one) morning this week decade to watch the sun rise and pray. We talked about it in our life group this week & I had an itchin’ to try it. I was thinking it would be so much easier to pray with this kind of stillness before me. It was still hard not to get distracted. Obviously, I was distracted by the camera (note to self). It was just 1 morning though . . . baby steps . . . I’ll make it out again. It takes years to master meditative prayer. I get it though. It definitely charged me up in a different direction for the day. Try it.

Erin Cutts - what a beautiful picture...the stillness just speaks to your inner soul!

Judy - Awww...you've inspired me. Let's see if it's enough to get me past my hatred of early mornings....

Celeste - Come on...i wanna see!!!

Allison - AH-Mazing!! Soooo glad i found your beautiful blog and site! Thanks so much for the sweetness on my blog, it means so much! I can see i'll be stalking often!! Gorgeous work!

resolutely vague (don’t ask;o))

The Woodlands newborn photographer. . . where in the world is it going already??! sooooo, like everyone else on the planet, I resolved to do a lot of things better this year. There are quite a few things that aren’t going to make the blog now, but my Christmas cards are not going to fall victim! So, I don’t care that January is almost over. I’m still going to show off my Christmas cards right here. right now. so there.

Before I do, just some doodles we’ve been playing with around here . . . and some of the stuff I was downloading when the crazy virus took over my computer.

So, here are our holiday cards. They turned out really pretty printed on pearl paper on a 8-panel accordian card. It doesn’t hurt that I had some pretty cute little models for my card;o)

Kim Hale-Hubbard - Allison, I LOVE that card! And yes, the models are absolutely adorable. Hope you guys are doing well and have a very blessed New Year. I apologize for being a slacker and not sending out Christmas cards this year...I promise to be better next year. Take care!

Rica Lara - We loved your card! Super cute. =)

Lizette - Stunning! love the pics and cards!

Clark Lara - Love the card, it is absolutely adorable. It put my snuggie card to shame. :)

Yvonne - Oh, I love this! I'm glad you shared this!!!!

Michele Anderson (Pinkle Toes Photography) - Um. That card is STUNNING! My favorite card all year for sure!

Linsey - I love the crazy, creative blogging world where you start in one place, scoot through countless others and land smack dab in the middle of something wonderful. Your blog and website are that something wonderful for me today. LOVE this card. Precious girls, clean design, beautiful photography. Perfect! Funny...I saw your logo and loved it when I was visiting the font designer's website a while back (I used the script for my personal Christmas cards this year). But I didn't take the time to visit your site back then...and stumbled upon it "randomly" (aka "by God's design") today. What a treat! I have written to much already, but glad to find you and will be back! If you want to visit me, I'm at www.LLHdesignsblog.com

pacman, viruses & sweetie pies

. . . just peeking out from behind a mound of ordering pictures, reloading software, editing holiday sessions, organizing, etc. to say HI!

The Woodlands child photographer

I intended to be all kinds of caught up from the Holiday stampede by now . . . BUT THEN SOME STUPID VIRUS ATE MY COMPUTER UP LIKE A LITTLE PACMAN WITH NARLY SHARK TEETH ON CRACK!!! Why do people create viruses?? I just don’t get it. And I’d sure like to kick one of them in the throat after the week I just had due to one of their nifty little creations.

So, now we’re  back & all kinds of better. But, I’m still reloading software, files, contacts, forms etc, etc, etc, etc. Not said to beg for your sympathy . . . just be patient with me. It’s funny, I thought I was pretty organized until this happened. I can’t seem to find anything now that I need it. I go to order something & realize - ’oh, that ordering software needs to be reinstalled too.’ ’oh, wait, what’s my password for that again!??’ Then I sit down to edit a card & realize, ’oh, that font is missing & needs to be reinstalled.’  Then someone emails me & I go to email them back and realize, ‘oh, that standard reply template is not here and needs to be reinstalled. Where did I save that again??!’ It goes on & on. I had no idea how streamlined/automated some parts of my business had become. Until .  I’m slowly getting there.

And, of course, I couldn’t leave this little dude out! I love his smile. It hasn’t changed since last time!  (and more here).

(hint: click a picture to zoom in. If you’re here by way of your google reader, facebook or the like, you may have to actually visit the blog to view these;o))

my special mess.

The Woodlands Tx family photographer

ok, I lied.

Why wait until tomorrow when it’s only 10:15?! Here are a few of my favorite pictures from our family session this fall. Stacey & I traded photo sessions when she was in The Woodlands  from Denton over the Thanksgiving holiday. Kind of sad that we were working on Thanksgiving, but this wasn’t exactly work us. It was so much fun for us to play around, take pictures & talk all things photography the entire time!  And I for one am ecstatic and thankful to have pictures of my own family, which will be treasured for generations to come.

Now, I know the torture my clients go through trying to make decisions about what goes on the canvas. I just can’t finalize the decision for the life of me. I’m forced to do a collage because there is no way to narrow it down to a single image. . .  BUT, good greif. It’s hard. Especially when you change your mind every other day in general about everything.

This is about 1 major holiday too late, but I am so stinkin’ thankful for this little family. And, extra thankful for this man, who is so full of awesomeness in all that he does. One quick little thank you to him for keeping me sane this year AND doing laundry, dishes, babysitting & more. YES, I said it, here for all to read, he did a lot of housework this year as I tried to find  the balance between well, a lot of things. Love YOU!

ps – only real men do housework

pps – you’ll be happy to know I hired a house keeper!!

Engagement pictures The Woodlands Tx

clip, clop, clip, clop. . . I guess that’s what woke her up; the sounds of our shoes on the old hardwood floors. The slightly peeved lady in a bathrobe that we woke from her cozy bed on Thanksgiving morning. And, it was cold too, bless her little heart. She didn’t realize that her little work in progress was a paragon of a backdrop for this engagement/couple session. And we didn’t realize she was sleeping just below our feet. Why there?? my mom would ask. . . well, there’s just something so perfect about something so pure & bright in stark contrast to something so shabby & dreary. I just love the feel of the whole image. I can almost smell that little room now. And, it was a nice retreat from the weather this day!

And the cranky little lady? Well, apparently we were trespassing on her property. Never occured to any of us. Because we would never trespass for the sake of a fun picture. Never. Plus, the door was wide open? The only thing missing was the welcome mat. But, we’re sorry anyhow. Stacey, I hope you loved your pictures! I would totally order a canvas collage of the ones above, in just this arrangement.

ps . . . I’ll be back tomorrow to share the pictures Stacey from Gold Apple Photography in Denton, Tx took for my family session on Thanksgiving Day :o )
