After the article in Professional Photographer Magazine’s May 2011 issue, I got a lot of questions asking where the bluebonnet pictures were this year?! Well, sadly, Texas wildflowers were a little pitiful this year (well, a lot pitiful in Chappell Hill specifically) due to drought conditions this year.

So, we made due and rallied on. I had a wait list that started after last year’s bluebonnet sessions. I didn’t want to let anyone down. So we took our already prepared ideas & set ‘em up sans beautiful sprawling field of wildflowers. hmph.

“That be ok.” my 2-year old would say. I went with it.

Well, more bad luck followed. As the first family stepped out of their car, the biggest, blackest, darkest storm cloud I’ve seen all year parked itself over us. (not a drop of rain of course) Light is kinda crucial to the lovin’ when you need to expose “film.”

sigh . . .

Well, the stars did align somewhere in there for us & thank goodness for all the cute (& understanding) faces that showed up to save the day . . . (and a little off-camera lighting)

I came across this quote & used it in her slideshow . . . she has the sweetest most perfect freckles scattered across her nose.

“A girl without freckles

is like a sky without stars.”

I’m really having a hard time believing all these kids were newborns and here on the blog just a split second ago. NOW, tomorrow, I get to take newborn pictures of her new brother! Seriously blowing my mind.

This is so Mollie. Her eyes may speak more than her mouth! The best part about getting to photograph a child from the minute they are born and throughout childhood, is I get to know and capture their personalities on such a deeper level.

I love linking all of a child’s posts so their families can see how much they’ve grown & changed. But, she’s been featured too many times for me to keep organized. Trust me, she’s grown a lot.

Not sure how one goes about editing kids this awesome down to just a few pictures. It’s really like 4 sessions in 1. So, I’m just being efficient.

Just the kind of awesomeness a blog deserves on a pretty Friday like this one! I love this kid! I told my husband later this day that I wanted to only photograph 5 year old little girls forever . . .

My favorite part of this session . . . When she said, “mom, you’re so lame” It provided such insight into my future. For the record, she has an older brother. I have no doubt she learned this little phrase from him.

the stars at night are always bright when you step into ‘their’ world.

We had a fun little Go Texas Day of our own in the forest this week. . . we even had old friends stop by! Wish they could have stayed longer.

a family of deer walked out of the forest . . . obviously they didn’t stick around very long.

taking her self-appointed sheriff duties a little too serious for the really awesomely oversized flower atop her head if you ask me. (uh, yes, her gun is pink too – a Q-Pa original)

this one was feeling a little too “HOLLYWOOD” to participate.

no matter how “sweet” they “look” . . .

. . . they are definitely still “siblings.”

thank you Christie. I wouldn’t have these without you.

AND my personal fav . . . moms who send their babies to my house while they are busy working so I can do whatever I want too!!!! I hope you are surprised in a good way Heather.

So, what do you think?? Is it studio light or available light?? Is it so obvious? Is it still “us”? I really would love to know:o)

This is a little interesting . . . all of a sudden I am shooting a ton of 6-10 month old babies. Last year all I shot was newborns. Get it? They don’t stay newborns:o( So fun though. . . check out her newborn session {here}. Still in my top 2 favorite newborn baby pictures to date.
