I was truly humbled to the core today. I got to witness and capture one of the top 3 most beautiful days (so far) in this family’s life. Mom has studied and prepared and prayed and read for months now. She planned a completely natural and intervention free birth after learning just how risky an epidural can be. These images are incredibly surface level compared to the other 500 images I narrowed down (ha!). They are her images and they will stay that way . . . BUT, because it’s close to my heart, I want to give a shout out for natural childbirth (& birth photography of course;o)) So, here are just a few.
This mom was UHHH-mazing! I can’t tell you how interesting it was to note, when sorting the images, that in 9/10 pictures she is smiling (sometimes through the tears) but smiling! Even in the end (well not the very end . . . ) but very close to the end. It’s incredible. Her husband would make a joke, we’d laugh & then we’d all get quiet as she worked through the next contraction; on her own, in her own thoughts and relying on her own strength (from God – I’m sure of it), but with her husband always right there. She is a strong lady & I am soooo honored and proud to call her a friend. They are raising an amazing family that knows God and this new little guy will be an oustanding husband someday. Although she is the STAR of the show on this day, her husband should get a bit of credit. He will likely be sore tomorrow. . . he was right there like a rock for her to lean on all the way. I wish I had words to do this day justice, but that’s not what I’m all about . . . I’m a visual girl:o)
E, you are lovely. AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY LITTLE DUDE!!!! I can’t wait to see you again – our time together (outside of your mommy) was brief!
** A little soap box note from Allison: . . . just because I picked happy images . . . and made comments about her smiling . . . does not in any way mean she didn’t WORK HER BUTT OFF to get to these happy images. It was hard work & I want everyone to know it – he was 9 pounds 6 ounces btw! BUT, I’m pretty sure she’ll tell you it was much easier more rewarding than having an epidural! If she won’t I WILL!
