I’m so behind I don’t know where to start . . . so I’m just going to bust out with one two weeks ago Friday & go from there. Most of it went like this:

Becky (aka: the navigator holding not 1 but 2 iPhones) “The dot is going the wrong way!”

Me (aka: the girl who didn’t print directions because she had her iPhone & GPS) “What, I thought is was this way. Hold on I’m turning around.”

Becky: “Ok, you’re good . . . the dot is going the right way now.”

                         “Wait, the dot stopped!”

Me: “Um, that’s because we stopped . . . [eye roll & giggle inserted here]“

Yeah, if you live by your iPhone, you know exactly what I mean. It was comical. To us anyway. The other member of our party was, (I’m sure, although she never uttered a word or an eyeroll) highly annoyed at our airheadedness. I likey my dot.

If you’re from the Houston or Dallas area, you know exactly what 1st Monday at Canton is. If not, well, you’re missing out. I guess it can be described as a massive flea market peppered with unique boutique booths and creative little happies from artists all over Texas. Then there’s the “back side” of Canton . . . that’s where all the “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” junk can be found. You have to be willing to dig and walk. It’s all very overwhelming. I was so done after about 4 hours.

I found a cornucopia of “props” for portraits and a couple of new bowls for upcoming baby photo sessions. Watch for ‘em!

I also found these little treasures to “feather” with;o) I’ve been decorating and rearranging my house AGAIN, and they already have a nook reserved.

(kodak range finder from 1940) . . it appears to work . . . don’t have film for it yet. it’s a “piece” . . . apparently always was a p.i.a. to use. I can totally see why with all the dials on the front of the camera no less. As if it isn’t hard enough to change your settings when they’re right at your thumb! I’ve always had a facination with all things previously owned & loved by someone else. It’s cool to see how the more things change, the more they stay the same too. Film is obviously a bit different than digital, but the way shutter speed, iso, and aperature affect one another stays the same. The top dial also has these options:

not only do I love that these books (from 1938) talk about “modern” development . . . I love the handwritten notes. neato.

and yes, i totally know these cameras are worth nothing . . . I just think they’re fun to decorate with & for only a few dollars each . . . who can blame me:o) I think the rangefinder works – but I don’t have film to check it out. I’m pretty sure you can’t get 640 film for the twin lens camera anymore. It’s a cool camera though. We all tried it out at my house. When someone else holds it at waist level and points it at you . . . you can totally see their face framed perfectly in the top lens on the front! sweet. I’ll have to get a picture of that! Nasty old plastic strap huh?? I hate to take it off, but it’s not like it’d hurt the value. I think I’ll replace it with some ribbon. yeap, I’m on it right now. gross.

Seriously though, it was so refreshing to get out of this Houston heat and hang out with such a dynamic and enjoyable group of girls. We stayed at Plum Pond Bed & Breakfast between Athens and Canton. I don’t know how to describe its’ perfectly needed qaintness. Our phones didn’t work there & that was perfect. I sat on the cute little wrap-around porch one afternoon & just watched the rain & that was perfect. I won’t lie, it took me a minute to adjust to doing nothing, but I’m already craving another dose. Their little farm was beautiful, simple, and unique. Its’ owners were elegant, lovely and UH-mazing hosts. The food was something I would expect from a 5 star hotel. Cool.

pictures from the weekend . . .

I’ve been seeing this quote everywhere lately . . . “The best camera is the one you have with you!” So what if they only start out at 72 dpi. My memory isn’t picky . . .

geez . . . I make long blog posts when I’ve been away for a while. Thank you if you read all of this rambling!!! whew . . . I feel better now.

Allison
